Zoom First Dance Lessons

Matthew provided the right level of patience, encouragement, and constructive criticism throughout our lessons.

How It Works

Over the course of your Zoom dance lessons, you and your fiancé will cover everything you need to perform your first dance! We'll start at the very beginning, covering basic steps, introductions, an ending, and additional “highlights” to incorporate into your dance. Each Zoom lesson is customized to you and your fiance - just like an in-studio lesson, but from the convenience of your own home. All that's required is an internet connection and a little space! Check out the FAQ for more info.

Zoom Dance Lessons FAQ

+ When can I schedule streaming lessons?

Our studio hours are Tuesday through Friday from 1 to 10 pm, and Saturday from 11am to 5pm CST.  Lessons can be scheduled by appointment within those hours at your convenience and are subject to studio availability.

+ How long is each streaming lesson?

Each streaming lesson is 40 minutes long.

Our instructors usually teach back-to-back lessons so they’ll sign in and out right on time. If you need to discuss scheduling or anything else, we recommend emailing before or after your session.

+ What materials do I need for the video calls?

You will need a computer (or similar device) with a webcam and Zoom downloaded. If a computer is unavailable, we recommend using a device that can be propped up easily so that you can keep the video stable.

You’ll also need to download Spotify to play from out various music lists.

+ How much space do we need?

We recommend finding the biggest space that you can; perhaps a living room or a large porch area--just make sure you have good internet connection wherever it is.  Some dance styles require more space than others, but we will be certain to craft a dance that fits with the tempo of your song and the amount of space you have to practice.

+ Can I record the video call?

For the sake of keeping the material exclusive to our students, recording video calls is strictly prohibited.

+ Do I need a certain application?

We conduct streaming lessons through Zoom.  Prior to beginning the calls, we will send you the necessary info to log into the Zoom meeting.

+ Who will be teaching us?

One of our lovely instructors will happily guide you through each session.  For the sake of consistency and clarity, it will be the same instructor throughout the entire process unless major scheduling conflicts arise.

+ What can we expect to accomplish?

We will help you to craft a wedding dance that you can feel confident and comfortable with.  We will provide all of the steps, but we want it to be a collaborative process wherein you are encouraged to bring your own ideas and decisions into the dance as well! We will have a plan for each of the video sessions to ensure that by the end, you have a beginning, middle, and end to your dance. If there are other elements you'd like to include or pursue, please bring those ideas!

+ What is your refund/cancellation policy?

We do not offer refunds for purchased video calls.  If you'd like to cancel or reschedule a call, we ask that you do so at least 24 hours in advance to avoid being charged for the scheduled time slot.  If you're running late to a call, or the internet connection prevents us from starting on time, we will still need to end at the appointed time.

+ Should we practice between sessions?

It is highly encouraged that you make time for additional practice between sessions!  We will, of course, take the time to do whatever review is necessary in each lesson, but if you spend time practicing on your own between sessions, this will allow us to spend more time learning and refining steps rather than getting bogged down in re-learning material that has already been taught in previous sessions.

+ How many sessions will we need?

There is no magic number for how many dance lessons it takes to create a polished, comfortable dance routine; it's different for each couple.  What's most important is the consistency of sessions, so that you can retain lesson material from one session to the next and move more efficiently through the process.  We offer video call packages of 5, 10, 20 and 40 sessions, so we recommend starting with one of these options and moving forward from there.

+ What if my internet connection is bad?

If your internet connection is unusable at the time of the lesson and you're unable to quickly fix it, we ask that you communicate this with us via telephone.

+ What time zone will the instructors be in?

Our studio and teachers are based in Central Standard Time, but we are willing to coordinate with students in any other time zone.
